Today in France, Didier Quillot, CEO of Lagardère Active, announced the appointment of Alain Lemarchand, COO, Lagardere Active, as Chief Executive Officer of Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S. effective September 1, 2008. Jack Kliger will be named Chairman, a newly-created position. Please see press announcement from Paris below.
The following is President & CEO, HFM U.S. Jack Kliger’s message to employees:
“Didier Quillot, CEO, Lagardère is announcing that he has appointed Alain Lemarchand, currently Directeur Général Délégué, Lagardère Active, as Chief Executive Office of Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S. effective September 1, 2008. Please see the press release below.
“I have known Alain for nine years from the time he was in the U.S. in 1999. He is a very capable executive and most of his career has been with the Lagardère Group. He was CFO in various Lagardère subsidiaries in France and in the U.S., and in 1999 became Head of Financial Communication and Investors Relations Management for Lagardère SCA. He was appointed Executive Director of Lagardère Active Broadcast by Arnaud Lagardère, and in September 2006, a Member of the Lagardère Active Executive Board.
“I have been offered the position of Chairman, HFM U.S. to concentrate on developing strategic relationships for the company. It has been a pleasure to spend the past nine years here. You are an outstanding team, and I want to thank you for your dedication and the many contributions that you have made.

Jack Kliger will be named HFM U.S. Chairman
Didier Quillot, CEO of Lagardère Active, announces the appointment of Alain Lemarchand, Directeur Général Délégué, Lagardère Active, as Chief Executive Officer of Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S. effective September 1, 2008.
Alain Lemarchand will be in charge of running the magazine and digital businesses in the Americas, including Jumpstart Automotive Media, and will be responsible for devising and executing a development plan for the U.S. and South America.
Didier Quillot also announces that current HFM U.S. President & CEO Jack Kliger will be named Chairman, a newly-created position.
The U.S. is a strategic market for the Lagardère Active Group, and HFM U.S. is the second largest revenue contributor behind France. The company has been a profitable business with strong brands, and the U.S. division has shown the fastest development in the field of digital media since the April 2007 acquisition of Jumpstart Automotive Media, the San Francisco-based vertical advertising network focused exclusively on the automotive industry. HFM U.S. will meet Lagardère Active Group’s stated goal to generate in excess of 10% of revenue from digital activities in the U.S. by 2008.
Didier Quillot, CEO of Lagardère Active said: “Alain Lemarchand has been an invaluable deputy who was instrumental in implementing and executing the Active 2009 plan. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank him for his boundless dedication. I am sure that he is the right man for the job of expanding our business in the U.S. and the Americas.”

Lemarchand will be replaced at Lagardère Active by Edward Russo, currently Corporate Controller for the Lagardère Group. He will assume this position in the coming weeks.
