04/01/2009

April 1, 2009, New York, NY – Margaret Russell, editor in chief and VP of brand content for ELLE DECOR, has announced two new editorial appointments, with Michael Boodro rejoining the magazine as executive editor, and Mitchell Owens moving to the new post of editor at large. Both changes will be effective April 13th.

Michael Boodro will lead the editorial department at ELLE DECOR. Most recently editor in chief of Martha Stewart Living, Boodro has an extensive background in publishing. He was previously editor in chief of Culture & Travel, and also held posts at The New York Times Magazine, Garden Design, and Vogue, in addition to his previous tenure at ELLE DECOR. Boodro also has written for House Beautiful, Town & Country, Country Living, and Organic Style.

“I am thrilled to welcome Michael back to ELLE DECOR,” says Russell. “He is an amazing talent and a trusted expert in the shelter category. His sophisticated editorial tone and extraordinary experience will be a terrific asset to the magazine.”

Mitchell Owens’s new post as editor at large supports the recent restructuring of the Luxury Design Group, which includes ELLE DECOR and Metropolitan Home. Owens will focus on feature writing, repositioning digital content, and will assist in enhancing new platforms.

“Mitchell’s long history with ELLE DECOR and his deep understanding of the brand makes him the perfect person to step into this key role,” says Deborah Burns, senior vice president and chief brand officer for the Luxury Design Group. “ELLE DECOR has grown into a strong and full-fledged brand with successful extensions across multiple platforms that include the Internet, television, books, and branded events. Mitchell’s experience will be crucial to assuring continuity and focus for the ELLE DECOR brand, particularly in integrating print and digital.”

Owens most recently was executive editor at ELLE DECOR and also has held the posts of interior design director and articles director at the publication. He has written in the past for The New York Times, The New York Times Magazine, Architectural Digest, and Travel & Leisure. Owens is a well-known lecturer on style and design, and is currently writing books about style icon Pauline de Rothschild and interior designer Ruby Ross Wood.
